Bubbate's & Bubba's Bravos & Boos from Hot Lanter
(with pictures) By Jo Ann Hlavac 03/24/05
Hey there race fans. Laidback Racing went to the first race of their
Chasin’ Racin’ Tour 2005, Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
(Photos links are in green). Hope ya’ll enjoy! To read more about the fans in this article and our Atlanta adventures, come back Friday for our
“Fan Recap from the Atlanta Motor Speedway Parking Lots (with pictures)”.
Both Bubbates & Bubba's Bravos to:
...to our Hillbilly Recon Officer from the north, Gino and his Daughter, Sam making the trek from Laurys Station, PA, to Hot Lanta to tailgate with us.
...a double bravo to Gino for bringing gifts for me and Mad Mikie!
...Mad Mikie coming from Floyd, VA to tailgate for the weekend too.
...Sam on TV while at the SpeedTV stage for Trackside Live. A double Bravo for getting our name, Laidback Racing on TV too.
...DW for taking around 20 minutes to sign autographs before Trackside Live.
...Gino for setting up an introduction between Race Mama Jo Ann and Steve Brynes.
...the Dale Earnhardt Memorial truck...it was airbrushed with everything related to Dale. On the hood it had at least 60 drivers autographs. (more photos of this tomorrow)
...the invocation before the truck race that included "Thank God that we live in a land where we are allowed to pray".
...the National Anthem being accompanied by a piano on Friday night.
...those big, boxy, beautiful trucks wrecking at the checkered flag after putting on the best show of the weekend again.
...Jason and David for seeing the Little Brown Truck, not wrecking and stopping to say hi there to us Friday night.
...the newest addition for Jason and his wife, daughter Emery.
...the great view of turn 3 from the East Turn Grandstands.
...a first time Busch Series winner and a first time Cup winner.
...applause from the East Turn grandstands for the sun coming out on Saturday.
...Amy Bone making me laugh Saturday when she said she was Zeke Lumpkin whom had just been paged over the PA system to report to a state trooper.
...2 back flips in 1 weekend.
....a photo finish in the Truck and Cup race.
...Jimmy's nose knowing when an engine is gonna blow.
...a photo of all of us at the track on Sunday.
...seeing how the fans react to the Little Brown Truck riding by them.
...Greg Clark and Gene McCormick coming up to us at NASCAR Victory Lane taping to tell us they love our website.
...the great heated shower houses Bruton provides for the camping race fans.
...to Terry Summers from Mauk for walking over and sharing the food they had left from their dinner...Frogmore Stew too! Ya'll know how much we like that stuff.
...for the great $65.00 ticket package not having an absurd $17.00 handling charge like Daytona and enabling us to see the Truck, Busch and Cup qualifying and race.
...Sam being a race mama at such a young age...THANK YOU SAM!
Bubbate's & Bubba's Boos to:
...Laidback getting a stomach virus and race mama catching it from him.
...traffic, traffic and more traffic...Double boo to them closing the back way on Bill and Rich aka Bubba and Bill (ain't that confusing...Bill is Bubba and Rick is Bill) from racingone message boards.
...the Chinook Helicopter bringing the pace car in at least 20 minutes EARLY causing over half the fans who purchased a ticket to miss it. INCLUDING US....we got to the track earlier than we ever had before too. I know our Recon man Gino has something to say about it...even if he is usually quiet and reserved!
...a first lap melee 2 races in a row. As Bobby Labonte said "It's 500 miles. That's all I can say. It's 500 miles, not one lap."
...no Jumbotron for the back stretch grandstands at Atlanta Motor Speedway...how are they different from the Texas back stretch fans Bruton?
...the fans sitting in the Weaver Grandstands section 13 around row 15, seats 25-34 for not only leaving their hats on during our National Anthem but talking loudly the whole time. Gino did say that this guy was pretty nice just drunk...so we aren't posting the photo we have of him from the front! Hey he's doing the "Junya Beer Salute".
...to the jerks sitting in the Weaver Grandstand, Section 13, Rows 17 and 18, Seats 24-31. They did not sit down the WHOLE race and stopped us from seeing turn 2 and the first part of the back stretch. It was the only thing that stopped our seats from being GREAT! Here is their leader.
...the back stretch scoring tower not being right all day. They even had the #3 in fifth place on it. Come on now...if he had risen from the dead we would know; there would be less red #8 apparel at the track.
This week some things deserved a bravo and a boo:
Bravo to them making it to Hot Lanta
Boo to not having Big Frankie or Little Frankie with us BUT
Bravo to fans asking about them.
Boo to our $45.00 camping spot being raised to $125.00 with no notice BUT
Bravo to racemama for doing recon and finding a better spot for $45.00
Bravo to a race track that still lets fans do that.
Boo to not getting a picture of Funnel Boy BUT
Bravo to seeing him again at a race track.
Boo to the shadows on racemama's face BUT
Boo to the racemama flashing her breast in the grandstands in front of a young child (Gino did say they were real and bodacious) BUT
Bravo to the Bald Bubba who flashed his right after her.
