runs & another that would have, except for a timely caution. That was bad enough, but what do you call what we just watched?
If you call it racing, then we seem to have different definitions of racing. I'm not about to flatter myself into thinking that anyone in Daytona really gives a rip what I think, but I'm going to put it out, anyway if for no other reason than to get it off my chest.
To think about what I just watched being 10% of what's going to determine the Championship is mind boggling. No way should this count toward the Championship.
If what we're seeing that now passes for racing on the plate tracks, is the best NASCAR can do. Then it's time to go back to the drawing board.
Being as the France family just ponied up the money to repave Daytona, I think it's highly unlikely that they're going to make any fundamental changes to the track. It would have been nice if the banking was changed to have allowed racing with out the restrictor plates. If it didn't happen then, it is not gonna happen now. It does look like we're pretty much stuck with plate racing. That being the case, then we deserve better than this Siamese, tag team stuff that now passes for racing.
If the tracks aren't going to change, then the cars need to change. I would think this would call for some serious wind tunnel time. There is any number of ways to go about trying to fix this problem. To NASCAR's credit they've recognized this as a problem.
One big thing they have to deal with is a time crunch, even though we're just coming up on the off season. What passes for an off season in NASCAR is short indeed & for the teams. There is no such thing as an off season. They'll immediately begin working on cars for 2012.
If it were up to me, I think what I'd do would do is avail myself of some of the best minds around. That would be the Crew Chefs, & team engineers. Someone out there probably already knows how to fix this thing, hopefully without breaking the bank. NASCAR just needs to ask the questions. Then listen with an open mind. I don't know about you, but I'm going to have a really tough time looking forward to Daytona, if it's going to be more of the same.
There's always been politics in racing, but I think that the deal between Jeff Gordon, & Trevor Bayne, might have been a new low. I'm not knocking Trevor. As he said he was strong armed into this. I'm sure he's telling it like it is. It just shows me why this type "racing" has no place in NASCAR & certainly not in the Chase.
I've watched Kyle Busch tear through the regular season, only to see him turn into an absolute lamb in the Chase. And this season is no exception. I think that's one reason that I'm so impressed by Brad Keselowski this year. He's making not only Roger look smart for hiring him, but Dale Jr. as well for hiring him in the first place.
I know it's not over, 'till it's over (thanks Yogi,) but for Jimmy it is over. It's looking more, & more, like it's Carl's to lose. He's at the point that he doesn't have to win. All he has to do now is what he's been doing the entire season. That's being smart, consistent, & having the breaks go his way. This week he and Jimmy employed the exact same strategy. Carl finished 11th, Jimmy finished 26th, enough said.
Supposedly, we got this Chase because Matt won his Championship with only one victory. My question is what are they going to come up with if Cousin Carl wins the Championship with only one win for the entire season? This despite the tweaks, including the new points system, & bonus points designed to put more emphasis on winning.

First you gave us the Chase. A lot of us don't like it & that's putting it mildly.
Then you didn't really put your best foot, or in this case your best races, forward.
If you're going to use only 10 races to try to maintain interest & compete with the NFL, (how's that worked out for you?) and crown a Champion, then they should probably be races that at least have the potential to produce barn burners.
So far this season in the chase we've had 2 races that came down to economy
