My wife & I are owned by a Westie, for those of you who don't know, that's a West Highland Terrier. I once read a sentence about them that sums up the breed perfectly.
Westies will not be ignored. Truer words were never written. When she wants' attention, she'll do whatever it takes to get it. If you've ever been owned by a Terrier, then you know just what I'm talking about.
Kyle Busch has a lot of these same terrier traits as well.
He felt that he couldn't win the truck race at Texas, so he made a move guaranteed to put the focus back on him. It worked, he got instant attention and he's still getting it.
M&M/Mars has evidenced it's displeasure in his actions, by distancing itself from him for the remainder of the season.
Every coin has two sides and the other side of this one is that M&M's has gotten millions and millions of dollars of publicity out of this deal and they weren't even the primary sponsor on the car. They were perfectly correct in their reaction. That having been said, M&M's are a great product and I expect long term that heightened brand awareness will outweigh the negative.
The fans who have no doubt sent scathing e-mails to Mars claiming they are boycotting M&M's probably don't buy them anyway. My wife is a chocoholic and they are definitely on her radar. I can say with 100% certainty that this won't have any effect on her.
Kurt, & Kyle both came into NASCAR acting like spoiled brats, I expect that's only because they were/are. For that I think one would have to take a close look at their parents and the way they were raised.
I've read from his apologists what a fine person he is and how nice he can be. I expect that's true. Even the most spoiled brat in the world can act great......when everything
is going their own way.
Kyle has been in numerous scrapes that we as fans know about and I expect many more that we don't probably going back a very long time. If you can pretty much skate on the
consequences of your actions, then you become conditioned to expect it. I really don't know the story of his being kicked to the curb by Hendrick. But if that was related to my point then he skated on that too and landed not only on his feet but running, with Gibbs.
This time, he probably is surprised at the weight of wrath that has fallen on him. This has to be a wake up call, equivalent to a bucket of ice water dumped on him while in a deep sleep. If he doesn't learn from this then I don't see much hope for him. But I really expect that he will. That's not to say that he'll come back next year with a thin candy shell, but a little sweetening can't hurt.
