A Christmas Tale
by Mad Mikie (Mike's Graphic Art Page) 12/21/07
knew Santa was going to bring him what he wanted for Christmas.

Needless to say, there it was, the night of Christmas Eve. Grandma made sure the young lad got to stay up a little later so he would be tired and fall asleep. But even after going to bed later, this young fellow was still full of nervous energy because he knew Santa was coming and coming soon. The fact that there was a lot of talking and noise coming out of the living room didn’t help him get to sleep.

But there was this restless young boy who’s mind was full of all sorts of things related to Christmas and Santa, who just couldn’t get to sleep. So he looked out his bedroom window at the night sky just to see what all was going on. He could see some Christmas lights in a few windows. There wasn’t a single car on the streets. Then he decided to look at the sky and see just what all was happening there.

After looking at the night sky for a while, he saw something that caught his eye outside of the stars that were out that night. There in the distance, he saw a steady red dot glowing in the sky. It was moving around in different directions, going up and down, left and right, and seemed to be slowly moving closer and closer. Well, it didn’t take much for this young lad to figure out what that red light was. That was all the incentive needed to help this young guy get to sleep. After all, Santa wouldn’t show up if he was awake.

When the young boy woke up on Christmas morning, sure enough, he’d known he had fallen asleep in time. There was an electric train, Lincoln Logs, and some toy cars and trucks under the tree. Everything he had wanted was there and then some. He was very happy indeed. So much so that he told his mom and grandparents about seeing Rudolph the night before flying through the night sky which brought a smile to their faces.

Many years later, this same young boy, who was now an adult, would be asked by one of his young nieces and nephews about whether or not Santa was real. Knowing this young boy and girl were still believers in the Jolly Old Elf, he told them about what he had seen in 1956 and let his niece and nephew decide if Santa was for real. The niece and nephew decided that Santa was real.

While some folks may disagree about Christmas and Santa, there’s a certain something about the innocence of youth and the time of year that brings out the Santa in all of us and the remembrance of  what Christmas is all about. I hope everyone has a great Christmas and enjoys the time with their loved ones.

Well folks, as we approach Christmas, I thought I’d do something a little different and take a break from racing stories and opinions and tell a little tale about a young lad who was about 3 years old back in 1956. He was really getting into the whole Christmas thing. His grandmother had made sure he understood the whole deal about Santa and when he showed up and how he had a sleigh with 8 reindeer and about Rudolph and the red nose that shown through the night sky.

This young fellow and his grandmother had been to see Santa earlier in the week at one of the two big department stores in Savannah, so he
