caution at Richmond. Having to create excitement at the Action Track…man what’s the world coming to?
In my opinion it was a pretty sedate race by Richmond standards until about 35 to go. Then all hell broke loose. But a sedate race at Richmond is still better than a race at most other tracks.
What the heck was Mikey thinking when he rammed Mears? Granted Mears got into him but there was no way that was deliberate. Good for NASCAR for parking Mikey.
The 24 team finally looked the championship caliber team they are Saturday night by turning chicken poop into chicken salad. Gordon must have passed about a hundred cars. I think the tide is turning for the 24 team.
Man, Matt Kenseth can’t buy a break.
And talk about not being able to buy a break, what is up with the 2 car? Maybe Kurt and Kenseth need to find a good root doctor.
Once again, a Gibbs car dominates a race than doesn’t close the deal. You know the coach wasn’t too happy.
You had to feel bad for Hamlin. He led all but one of the first 275 laps. BUT there is no way he should have stayed out that long trying to wait on a caution. That could have been bad for a lot of others.
And what was up with Hamlin stopping up by the wall then going once the caution came out? He should have done one or the other so I understand the penalty. It also gave conspiracy theorist a reason to start yammering.
OK I like Kyle Busch and Jr. That was just “one of them racin’ deals.” And if it was any consolation to Jr., Busch didn’t win either. Maybe it was that thing called karma.
I find it extremely ironic that some of Jr’s fans that were his daddy’s fans would have the nerve to be upset about this incident. HELLO? Ironhead wrecked more drivers trying to win than Kyle Busch ever thought about.
And on that note, how would these fans talk about this incident if it happened the other way around?
And these same fans complain about "vanilla" drivers and how they want it to be like the old days...well it seems to me like that is exactly how it played out Saturday night.
Now I don’t care if you like Jr. or not, how could you not feel bad for him during the post race interview? And good for him for showing so much class.
Now I thought Busch going up to Steven Wallace Friday night was pretty funny. What I don’t understand is how he thought that was OK but it wasn’t Ok for a crewman from the 88 come up to talk to him Saturday night.
Bill Elliott once said “Sometimes you win by being the best of what’s left.” I think that pretty much describes Bowyer’s win. The stats will just show he won not that the leader had a flat, than the second and third place guys wrecked.
When was the last time cars were taken to a post-race dyno test? The Toys seem to have a pretty big advantage.
We went to Rockingham on Sunday for the ARCA race. Man it was just so good to be back there. Even though Joey Logano stunk up the show by dominating, we saw cars running 3 and even 4 wide. What a great track for racing. It was funny because we were joking how we have never been hot at the Rock and we were hot Sunday! I really appreciate what Andy Hillenburg has done for the track. Now I would have liked to see a bigger crowd but in I think holding the race the week before Darlington may have played a part in that. Fans who love Rockingham love Darlington and sometime you have to make a choice. This race
started Laidback Racing's Month of Speed and
it was a great place to start our chasin' racin' for
May.
In my opinion, Talladega kicked off the best
stretch in racing we have. Even though I am not
a fan of the plate, I end up watching Dega with a
deer in the heads lights kinda look. It ain’t
always pretty but it is usually more entertaining
than I would like to admit. This spring race there
was one of the best I have seen. Then we hit
Richmond called the Action Track for a reason.
Next it is onto the Motherland, Darlington where
the good cars and the bad ones run next to the
wall. And the boys will be flying around there at
200 MPH down the backstretch? I am glad we still have seats in Colvin. Expect a Hoedown.
Then we get the all out, balls to the wall, winner take all, no holds barred, All Star race. And finally, the endurance race know as the Coke a Cola 600. Man life is good!
REAL LAP LEADERS: Until lap 382 there was only one lead change which happened when Allmendinger stayed out under caution to lead. When Hamlin's tire started going down, Earhardt got the lead until he was booted by Busch and Bowyer scoots by for the win. So 3 lead changes with 1 happening under caution and one happening cause the leader lost his tire and the other happening cause 2 guys wrecked. Not too good for a Richmond race. (Info gathered at www.jayski.com and www.nascar.com )
THE READERS DIGEST VERSION OF THE RACE: Denny Hamlin dominates, obliterates and flat out stinks up the show for 383 laps. Then all hell broke loose and some how Clint Bowyer won.
We are off to the Motherland, Darlington Raceway, where driver's will try and dance with a new and improved "Lady in Black". Let me say again, LIFE IS GOOD!
