race came down to being a fuel mileage race just like the Cup race. That was the first key as to what would happen on Sunday.
I’m not sure what’s going on with the coverage of the Truck Series races but they’re looking more and more like the typical Focks-ed up coverage of the Cup races, to include plugs for that danged varmint Goopher. Please, don’t ruin the coverage of the one racing series in Brian’s Big Top that is actually about racing and not marketing and actually has some real excitement in it.
And talk about a 180 degree turn in comments about the Talladega race. One of my sources said that the drivers have been told to keep their mouths shut about anything that might be “sensitive” and taken out of context by IBPN since IBPN wasn’t being a “team player“. We finally get to hear the honest opinions of the drivers and the Booth Buffoons and then they turn around at Texas and are once again being the NA$CAR suck-ups and apologists they were before. And we even have drivers denying statements they made or saying they were misconstrued. Please, don’t urinate on my back and tell me it is rain.
Then to add insult to injury, we have the same guys who criticized NA$CAR in some interviews doing a complete about face. And having Kenny Wallace telling fans to shut up about their criticism and saying that NA$CAR is doing a great job? Maybe it’s time you took some medications for your ADHD Kenny. If NA$CAR is doing such a great job, why are there so many empty seats, the ratings are off, and both drivers and fans are saying the races are boring?
Once again, IBPN put on their version of the Jimmie Johnson show. The first time or two they showed the Lap 3 wreck, it was OK. But to show it 13 times? Then all the time shown on the repairs? There was a race going on wasn’t there? We did tune in to see what was supposed to be a race, correct? The only thing I can think of is that IBPN was doing their best to try to create some drama and they failed miserably at it.
From the shots they did show of the grandstands, they were lucky if they had 60% capacity. My advice to TMS is to tear down the backstretch grandstands. Maybe then the other grandstands might look a little fuller. Having been at TMS both in the grandstands and while working in the pits, I could see a lot of areas that use to have fans sitting in them. The PSL area has become smaller and smaller over the last 5 years. They started getting smaller way before the recession hit. So that excuse doesn’t hold water.
And some folks thought it was awfully strange that Jeffy Boy was about to get lapped and a debris caution came out. Yes, they did show the debris but you have to wonder just how long the debris was out there? I’ve seen first hand debris that was out of the racing groove sit on the track for 20 laps or more and then when one of the Chosen Ones was about to get lapped, NA$CAR suddenly sees the debris. Just another service of the WWE on Wheels trying to keep things artificially exciting like the artificial excitement of the Chase for the Chumps.
One theory put forth about the Lap 3 accident is that Hornish was being used as an “enforcer” to make the race more exciting by bumping Johnson only it didn’t go according to plan. Instead of him just getting wobbly or just spinning out, Johnson wrecked. I’m just throwing that out there for public consumption. As many times as Hornish has spun on his own without any assistance, trying to use him as an enforcer seems highly unlikely. Of course, after watching the replays a number of times, it was actually Roto-Reutimann who caused the wreck when he got into Hornish. Maybe Penske should get a major washing machine manufacturer to sponsor him because of all the time he’s spinning on the track? Just a thought Roger. No charge for the sponsorship idea.
One safety issue has been brought up yet again about the inside walls and their not have SAFER barriers on them. We saw a good example of that during the truck race. We also saw that during the Cup race. So if NA$CAR and the track owners are as concerned about safety as they keep saying they are, why aren’t all the inside walls covered with the SAFER barriers?
I read where Jabber Jaws wants to have his own town hall meeting which would include the fans. As we all know, Jabber Jaws usually doesn’t do or say something unless it fits his or NA$CAR’s agendas. Would it be a true town hall meeting or would it be something that was spelled out ahead of time with official Ministry of Propaganda sheets? Could the fans actually ask the questions that NA$CAR either ignores, dodges, or gives non-answers to? Would the fans actually get real answers or would they get canned answers that help promote the “Everything is Beautiful” mantra we keep seeing or hearing? Would the town hall meeting be open to the broadcast media and would they actually broadcast it live so that tough questions and the resulting answers couldn’t be censored out? If it is a legitimate town hall meeting, will NA$CAR actually listen to what the fans have to say or will they continue to keep their heads buried in the sand like they have for the last 5 years? Too many unanswered questions for my taste.
Does anyone honestly think that a driver whose main focus is marketing themselves and driving full time in another racing series can actually bring anything other than hype and marketing of themselves to NA$CAR?
There have been a lot of commercials over the last few weeks for races and tracks that don’t have anything scheduled til late in the spring and they’re also including their fall race dates too. You can expect to see more and more of this as the season draws to an end. And don’t be surprised if you see a lot of advertising during the off season too.
And for all those lamestream media folks who have described the non-credentialed folks who give their two cents worth as being like the National Enquirer, put this in your pipe and smoke it. An actual National Enquirer article about racing: PAL: DALE EARNHARDT JR. IN A DEATH SPIRAL
I’m not saying it’s true or false, but just giving fans an opportunity to see what a real National Enquirer article is like versus what the unwashed and unannoited write. It reads more like what the lamestream media writes not what the non-credentialed writers put out there. Now if they’d do one about His Majesty being sober and not hunting palm trees.
Because of the possible stress on the pregnant woman caused by a long trial, who was one of the people assaulted by Lisa Mayfield, the assault charges were dropped. However, Lisa Mayfield was found guilty on the trespassing count. She more than likely will be hit with a stiff fine but no jail time. You can bet the Beach Boy Bubbas were sweating bullets because of the possibility their star witness against Jeremy Mayfield would be behind bars when the next hearing comes up regarding the lawsuit filed by Mayfield. But she’s still not off the hook. She still faces the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Mayfield and any actions taken by the courts in that case.
Between the work that the folks at Save the Speedway did in keeping the track’s history alive and interest in the old girl in the public eye plus what Terri Parsons has put together with Speedway Associates Inc. to get racing back to North Wilkesboro Speedway, it can only get better. I expect to see more racing series adding North Wilkesboro to their schedules. Rumor has it that the ISCARS Dash Series will also be running there which is
interesting as the Dash Series got started at
North Wilkesboro Speedway. A real track with
real racing and real history that fans will pay to
see. Too bad you can’t say the same about most
of the tracks run by your family Your Highness.
I want to give a shout out to my ex father-in-law,
a former Navy Frogman, and wish him a speedy
recovery from his surgery. I hope you’re back on
the golf course real soon.
The Navy Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB)
were busy in Tonga building schools, helping
local hospitals with repairs to medical equipment,
and providing medical and dental care for folks
who needed it as a part of the Navy’s Pacific Partnership program which is strictly a humanitarian and civil assistance program. It’s also a part of the response force in the Pacific to tsunami’s and earthquakes. But you won’t here about it unless you go searching. So to the Seabee’s of NMCB-1. Thank you for a job well done.
