they would be happy, fans at the track would have another race to watch during the weekend so they would be happy and drivers and teams could use it as a way to get more info for the race so they would be happy. Hey wait a minute….that’s what the Duel 150’s used to be!
The Danica Patrick 300 ended up being the Danica Patrick 172. At least after that we didn’t have to hear her name every sentence…just every other sentence.
You have to hand it to Jr….In his interview, after he flipped over and slid around on the hood of his car during the Nationwide race, he said that you don’t get on your hood too much and at least it was spectacular when he did.
Man, are we in trouble if Mikey does more announcing now that he is retiring. He is some kind of annoying in the booth. He is the BIG negative about watching the trucks races.
Well the return of the Black 3 didn’t last long did it?
And I had to rein Jimmy in about his boy Rowdy. He was 18 laps down and racing the leaders hard….that WILL come back to bite him.
Boy, one more “big one” during the truck race and there wouldn’t have been enough trucks left to even form a draft.
OK I say this whenever I write an article whenever the trucks race….I enjoy the heck out of watching those big boxy trucks race! Now that’s racing.
One of the big pieces of news many were spouting off about was the uniform start times of races this year. Jimmy wants to know why it is then that we are only on week 2 and already that is out the window. The race from California starts at 2:00 EST so that is 11:00 PST….Neither one of these is 1:00.
I think the stands looked pretty full, especially compared to last year. Of course, it helped that they took out some of the back stretch grandstands. But still the crowd looked good.
I REALLY miss “watching” the race on the radio.
When they panned the infield once, did anyone else see the monkey drinking the Bud Light? PETA is gonna be some kind of pissed if they saw it. I’ve said it many times; you can see it all in the infield.
So what did you do during the 10 minute red flag that lasted almost 2 hours? Jimmy cut firewood. I stacked it, vacuumed the house and updated a ton of the Race Recon pages.
The first 2/3rds of the race dragged in my opinion but once the sun started to set and the track cooled off…man oh man were those cars racy. And they really wasn’t a big one like in previous years. So all in all I was pretty happy…except for the pesky 2 hour red flag.
One of the announcers said “the 200,000 fans that are here”…..Jimmy said “200,000 people at Daytona? They must be counting all the people at Disneyworld too.”
All is right in the world again…Jr. finished second. And I don’t care if you like him or not, think he is overrated or not….that was some kind of impressive driving on the last 2 laps.
And talk about impressive, Kevin Harvick made a pretty sporty move near the end of the race too.
Now many seemed surprised about Jamie McMurray in Victory lane after the race…well not me. I talked Jimmy into picking him for his fantasy team and Jimmy now sits atop the points in his league. I also talked him
into Jr.
Final Thoughts…for whatever reason the
track at Daytona hasn’t been repaved in
30+ years. It’s time. I don’t even think
it has any thing to do with the cost. I
think they are worried about the speeds.
Maybe it is time to knock down some of
the banking too. I am no engineer but I
am sure if the powers that be talk to a
few engineers something can be figured
out. What I do know is that for whatever
the reason the track tore up; cold, rains,
old asphalt, heat whatever, it made the
track owners and NASCAR look ridicules.
All we hear year in and year out is that The Daytona 500 is our biggest event. Well then, it needs to be run on a track that deserves that honor.
