new rear spoiler, some are still testing with the old bat wing, so it could still get canned just like the old spoiler did. Until you actually see it being raced, don’t count on it. You’ll lessen the odds of being disappointed if it doesn’t show up.

There’s talk about a bigger restrictor plate for Daytona; the reason being more throttle response. Well, if you want more throttle response, get rid of the danged thing. You’ll really get some throttle response then. You’ll also find out who the real drivers are. You’ll know which ones are packing “grapefruits” and which ones are packing “BB’s“.

And don’t be fooled by those saying that I$C is widening the seats to make it better for the fans. It’s being done to hide the fact that their races aren’t selling out. All wider, spaced out seats mean is there are fewer seats which when viewed on TV means the illusion of more fans at the track and less empty seats. Pay very close attention to the back straight grandstands at Daytona. They’ve been tearing down sections of them and moving them to a dirt track nearby. If they shut down the back straight seats for the Firecracker 400, that should tell you a little something. It’s just more smoke and mirrors.

For those who are interested, the temps right now for the Dakar race are running about 120 degrees down there. Reminds me of my days in the Mojave and a few other places.

In the most recent legal action between Mayfield and His Majesty, Faux King Brian, it seems that while His Highness is asking for all sorts of information and records from Mayfield which are being supplied by his band of legal eagles, the Majestic Maladroit is very slow in supplying the information that Mayfield is asking for. Like at a snail’s pace. It also appears that the residency of His Royal Highness is coming into play here too. Does the case actually need to be heard by the NC courts or at the Federal level? I guess it’s going to depend on which state is actually the Majestic Misfit’s state of residence. If the residency in the yet-to-be-released divorce files shows NC as His Highness’ residence, then things will take on a whole new complexion. But from what I’m gathering so far in this latest round of legal banter and what I’ve heard from someone close to what’s happening, is that while Mayfield is furnishing documents and materials, NA$CAR and/or the Palm Tree Hunter aren’t furnishing squat. I thought the discovery process was supposed to work both ways? No wonder Judge Mullen is having considered some adult supervision in this case. “Now would the attorneys for the defendant please escort Mr. Brain Farze is it, back to the day care room and keep him from licking the floors and windows in the courthouse please? Thank you.”

I’m trying to figure out just how you furnish a text in a court of law? And what text would be furnished? I’m sure that if there are some text between Mayfield and his lawyers that they would be considered privileged communications and as such can’t be submitted. But then if there’s a grocery list between Mr. and Mrs. Mayfield, what would be the relevance of it to the case? This is the first time I’ve heard of texting being needed by anybody in court. I’m glad somebody other than me is getting paid to hash this out.

Some news from Terry, our man with the plan out in Phoenix:
Take it for what it is; the spring race at PIR is adding 63 laps this year. It will now be the Subway Fresh Fit 600. Daytona wants earlier start times so the race will start at 4:30p local time, 7:30p for the east. PIR still wants it to end after dark so add 63 laps to the 312 or an extra hour. With the POS I hope we don’t fall asleep. Our Vegas tickets showed up during the holidays so it's time to get ready for a new season I hope it's better than last year. It's a new year so a person can hope right?

Yes, we can hope Terry. If half the rumored changes come about for the POS, I mean Crusty’s Old Toilet, things might improve, but I’m not betting on it. You can’t polish a turd. We still have the race manipulation going on behind the scenes and for fans at home the poor quality race coverage. By extending the race an extra hour that means some fans will still be heading to bed before the race is over even with an earlier start time. And if there are a lot of cautions, whether they’re real or courtesy of Ms Terry DeBris or a red flag, the race will drag out even longer than a WWE “Last Man Standing” match. And with this “600” in the race title, you can bet that Bruton the Bald, keeper of the signs, won’t be very happy about it.

It looks like NA$CAR is taking a major demotion in its coverage. Instead of having the Chase for the Chumps races being shown on the Alphabet Network, most of them are going to be shown on IBPN instead. Remember why they moved Monday Night Football to cable? Dropping ratings. And by showing the bulk of the play-off races on cable, ratings will sag even more because not everyone has cable or satellite and even folks who have cable don’t necessarily have IBPN. If the ratings keep going the way they are, IBPN may eventually move the Chase for the Chumps to “The Ocho”, to join their coverage of Dodge Ball, live snail racing from the Bonneville Salt Flats, the 1987 Chinese Pick-up Sticks Tournament from Peking, the 2009 Glo-bull Warming Expedition to the North Pole, Turkish Taffy Pulling, Locker Room Towel Snapping from a local high school, and Tiddly-Winks with manhole covers from Bruges Belgium.

It’s funny when you see the track presidents of Daytona and Talladega thinking that the new changes are the greatest things since sliced bread and chewing gum. After all, who’s their boss? The same bunch who’s running NA$CAR. This is part of the problem with the “Yes Men” who have infected the leadership of the sport. I bet they’d be applauding loudly and cheering on a decision to put in some jump ramps from the Chitwood Auto Daredevil Thrill Show on the back straights. Until they make some major changes, like replacing the current leadership with someone who has half a brain, it’s going to continue to be these cheesy little things that are done in the name of competition and the fans. Get rid of the yellow line, get rid of the restrictor plates, get rid of the poor leadership and management, and get something that resembles the cars on the street. These would make for some great improvements for starters.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, we now have NA$CAR, shill-meisters extraordinaire, becoming the shills for the Human Shill. Any bets he gets a waiver for an open-face racing helmet so it doesn’t interfere with him shilling everything and everything under the sun for the alcohol-infused, silver Lexus driving, Palm Tree Hunter of Daytona Beach? Or is it Charlotte NC? Or is it LaLaLand? Or is it Phoenix? I sure wish they’d settle this residency issue. It’s so confusing.

history of the sport, here’s a new blog that just
started up: http://www.realnascar.com/ The first
installment is about Bowman Gray, the same
track that was on the TV show Madhouse.

With the recent earthquake in Haiti, 3,500
members of the 82nd Airborne, 2,200 Marines,
6 Navy ships including the Comfort hospital ship, helicopters, and Air Force and Coast Guard cargo planes are on the way to help deliver supplies and aid the injured and homeless. Once again, our military is at the forefront in helping out those who have been struck by a catastrophe.

North Wilkesboro Speedway has added the Buck Baker Racing School to their schedule. They’ve got 12 dates slated for the track. The cold weather has delayed the start of the school but hopefully the cold weather will end soon do they can get rolling. They also picked up an official Presenting Sponsor for the track for the next 3 years (that should be a financial help) along with the establishment of a benevolent fund. http://www.historicnws.com/index

Several folks are saying that “NA$CAR listened”. Folks, until you actually see all the changes that are being speculated on, don’t count on them. While some teams have been testing out the
