have more people there than there will be in Joliet for the race and that the ratings for the Bears game will be significantly higher than those of the play-off race in that particular market. It’s seems pretty obvious to me that Faux King Brian has chosen to ignore the fans once again and went against some advice I laid out a while back. You race where you have a supportive fan base, not where there’s a media market; prime example being Fontana. It’s right there in LaLaLand, the #1 market in the world for the media, and how many folks have bothered to show up for the races there?
How many folks think the name “Chicagoland” sounds like some cheesy amusement park based on gangsters and corrupt politicians?
With all the hot air that comes out of Washington DC and Boston being known for its baked beans, you’d think one of those two towns would be called the “Windy City”.
Along with the changing schedule for 2011, did anyone in the Daytona Brain(less) Trust bother checking out the weather patterns for the last 50 years and see how they run for those particularly dates in the various parts of the country where they‘ll be racing? You don’t want to schedule a race date on a weekend that’s been historically proven to occur during a rainy or snowy part of the year. Or has temperatures that can either fry an egg or turns your testicles blue from the cold. Maybe they should’ve hired one of the Focks Booth Bozos who watches the Weather Channel religiously to help them out with that. Mike Mulhern points out a few things about the proposed schedule and the weather. NASCAR's 2011 Sprint Cup tour schedule looks like.....
From what’s being speculated about the 2011 schedule, it looks like the only impactful thing that’s going to happen is the impact it’s going to have on the Royal Treasury and that’s going to be even more red ink than they have now. I wish I knew who sold them that red ink because I’d buy some stock in that company and make a fortune off of NA$CAR’s misfortune. Monte makes a good point about the casino in his article Burning issues: 8-10-10. Jenna Fryer Changes to Cup schedule fail to impress seems to be sorely disappointed with the schedule despite all the hype about it. NA$CAR has become 99% hype and 1% substance, so don’t be further disappointed when the official schedule is released. I’d say more folks are going to be finding other things to do next season rather than watching the Cup shows.
Is anyone, besides NA$CAR, the Charlotte politicians, and the lamestream media, really surprised that the HOF is coming up way short of what they projected for visitors and revenue? Wait, let me guess. Because the drivers are talking badly about the current version of “the show”, how it’s being run, and who‘s running it, it’s causing the fans not to spend big bucks to show up from BFE to see the France Hall of Fantasies and their redacted and highly edited version of history. That’s got to be it. NASCAR hall attendance falling short
This is yet another white elephant that the taxpayers of Charlotte are paying for. You have to wonder if the politicians are like Sméagol from the Hobbit and are consumed with having the HOF and spending taxpayer dollars the way Sméagol was with the ring. Yes, my precious.
On average, they’re getting 1140 persons a day visiting. Bill the Mechanic said they get that many folks showing up at Portillo’s Hot Dog Restaurant where he lives in SoCal just for lunch. I bet they’re getting something they enjoy and getting out of there for a lot less than what the Hall of Fantasies is charging.
Was anyone really surprised when Hamlin said he was cutting back on his Twitter activity? Smart move on his part, especially since Big Brother Brian is watching and some lamestream journalists have forgotten a few things about protecting sources.
The ratings came out early for Watkins Glen. They were a 3.8 and about 4.931 million viewers, the same as the 2008 ratings. There was a rain-out in 2009, so I’m not including those because those are skewed being on a Monday. However, if you go back even further, 2007 had a rating of 4.1 which equals about 5.6 million viewers, a 4.6 in 2006, a 5.2 in 2005, a 4.7 in 2004, and a 5.6 in 2003 with 5.96 million watching. So since His Highness has taken over, they’ve lost over a million viewers for the Glen race. You really know what’s best for the sport Your Majesty.
The Network Nitwits didn’t really follow up on what happened to Robby Gordon’s car at the Glen. The last thing we fans saw was the car heading down pit road smoking. It appears that there wasn’t enough transmission oil in there and the transmission went up in smoke. Hopefully we get some better coverage and follow-ups from BSPN at Michigan.
It appears that not only did Boris Said get a raw deal from Bill Jenkins but also their regular driver David Stremme. Things like that make it hard to find a driver from those who don’t have a ride right now, especially when you’re talking about not getting paid. Jenkins says part of the problem is with a GPS sponsor he had and a conflict with the Series sponsor and him having to pull the sponsorship. Now that I can believe based on what’s happened in the past with AT&T, Verizon, and Alltel and the problems Shell has had with the official fuel provider. Obviously His Highness didn’t think things through when it came to the teams finding sponsors because he’s effectively eliminated at least a dozen different sponsors by using the exclusivity deal on the sponsorship contracts for NA$CAR. Once again, he knows what’s best for the sport because he said so. Anyone interested in a bridge I’ve got in NYC?
As to Kasey Kahne driving for Red Bull, Jay Frye says that Hendrick is not footing the bill. And with the latest info on Brian Vickers’ and him not being back next season, putting Kahne in the seat makes sense as Kahne was without a ride for next season. You can bet that Red Bull will pick up a few more fans and some more marketing things related to Kahne being there. I guess some Kahne fans will have to get new license plates for their cars and trucks 2 years in a row.
And as usual when they went to a road course race, much ado about nothing was made about the road course ringers. Let’s face a little reality here. The last really successful road course ringer was Dan Gurney who won 5 road course races and he retired from Cup racing in 1980. Since then, the Cup drivers have managed to fair pretty well. So why does the lamestream media continue to go on about the ringers? Is it once again making a story where there isn’t one?
Back when Rex White was racing, he had a
business partner named Louis Clements. Louis
name sort of got lost in the history of the sport.
Louis had a son named Mike who is still alive
and well and has chronicled his life growing up in
racing and will have a book in the stores in
September which covers some of the history of
White-Clements Racing, his life in racing, and a
number of never before seen photos from back in
the day. Being a friend of Rex, I’ll be interested
in not only the book but also the photos. And as
I’ve become acquainted with Mike over the last
couple of years thanks to Rex, I should be able
to get the answers to a few questions anyone
has from the author himself.
