The Ole Days
Pass the Mashed Potatoes, Eula Faye:
Dinner with the Marlin Family
It seems father and son had finally agreed it was high time for Sterling to graduate from the short tracks of Tennessee and Alabama to a NASCAR superspeedway. Specifically, the massive intimidating 2.66-mile, high banked track at Talladega.
The only problem was working the words "Sterling" and "Talladega race" into the same sentence, then slipped it past family boss lady Eula Faye Marlin during their dinner time conversation.
It happened (so they claim) something like this back in the early '80s:
Coo Coo: These sure are good collard greens, Eula Faye. Don't you agree, son?
Sterling: Yes, sir, Daddy, they sure are. Good collard greens, no doubt about it.
Coo Coo: No doubt about it all Sterling's gonna run in the Talladega race pass the mashed potatoes and gravy, please and, by the way, they sure are good collard greens, Eula Faye, and by the way, Sterling's gonna run Talladega.
