On September 30 1956 at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway something phenomenal happened that has never been repeated.
The race had a field of 24 cars. On lap 181 of 200, Curtis Turner slipped into the lead ahead of the 14 cars left in the race.
Behind him all hell broke loose. The only car to miss the big one was Turner. He drove through the melee and went into his pits. The race was called and to this day that was the only race that ended with only one car running.
