Ned Jarrett tells some of the best stories I’ve ever heard from the old days.
He tells this one story about running the old beach course in Daytona. The tides many times had a hand in who would win. If the race was running long, the tide would start coming in and the cars would actually run in the surf.
Well, Ned went too hard into the turn where the beach meets the road. He said the last thing he remembered was hitting the water at full steam. He knew it was gonna be bad & was afraid that he would be going to meet his maker.
He starts coming to and opens his eyes to see a very large drunk women
cradling his head in her lap.
She told him “Here honey, drink some of this. It will make you feel better.”
Ned said that she was trying to give him moonshine but he told her no thank you.
He was so convinced that he was going to die that he didn’t want to
meet St. Peter at the Pearly Gates with moonshine on his breathe.
