SMOKEY MOUTAIN RACEWAY

In Maryville Tn., was the ½ mile tough track named the Smokey Mountain Raceway.

After a wreck in June 1968 Buddy Baker was on a gurney in the ambulance to go to the local hospital.  As the ambulance made its way across the track to the exit gate, the back doors flew open and Baker rolled out.

He went down across the track into the oncoming caution traffic!  Baker was strapped down and almost run over by the field.  He made it to the bottom of the track with out being hit.  To add insult to injury however, the gurney flipped end over end in the mud with Buddy still strapped on it.

And the boys these days complain about safety crews!
