Although Curtis Turner and Little Joe Weatherly were teammates driving for Moody, nothing delighted them better than beating and banging on each other.
At Darlington one year, Weatherly passed Turner, and Turner nearly destroyed both cars trying to get back into the lead. Moody was so irate that he radioed Turner that if he kept it up his crew wouldn't pit him when he came in.
After a few more laps of mayhem, Turner came in for service and Moody ordered the crew to sit on the wall. When Turner saw he wasn't getting fresh tires - much less a windshield wipe – he drove off in a rage, straight into the wall.
The next morning, according to Moody, Turner drove to the team’s shop, which had roll-up doors, crashed his brand-new Cadillac through the doors, put it in reverse, backed out,
and peeled rubber for half a block. Without saying a word.
