The new four-lane Georgia Highway 20 is finished. Spanning approximately 8 miles from I-75 directly to the speedway will give fans a second major traffic corridor to the track and should have a significant impact on race day traffic flow. The Bruton Smith Parkway will run from Exit 218 off I-75 to the speedway. It joins Georgia Highway 19/41, which runs south from I-75 Exit 235, as the two main event traffic routes to Atlanta Motor Speedway. In preparation for the new Georgia Highway 20, Atlanta Motor Speedway officials have made many improvements to entrances and parking areas, including the addition of shuttle vehicle loops around the speedway and to on-property camping areas. Fans attending the upcoming race weekend are encouraged to follow the direction of speedway parking crews to parking areas and either ride the Nationwide shuttle vehicles or walk to their seating areas via new sidewalks surrounding the speedway.

Private Camping near Atlanta Motor Speedway
While we've been to Atlanta many times we either stayed at my sister's or camped on speedway property. HOWEVER there are Pop Odom's around the track. We parked off 19/41 on Oak Rd. across from the track so we would be on the same side of the highway that we need to head home from. First map has side roads across from the track shown. Second map shows side roads on same side of road as track. This is where Pop Odom's will be.

VENDORS WELCOME 678-640-9000 ask for Randy. Please leave a message if he doesn't answer. He has hook up spots, dry camping for RV's and tent camping available. On the front of his property is a ton of vendors. His property is extremely close to the shuttle stop and within a block to the track showers. There is a road Goss and it runs right next to Racing Radios on Hwy 19/41. Turnipseed runs between Goss and Bear Creek. Randy's is on Turnipseed. You can also turn on Speedway Blvd and take the first left...head toward the gray house and the Independent vendors are next door in front of Randy's place. PLEASE TELL RANDY LAIDBACK RACING SENT YOU!
Right next to Randy's is a large Grey House. RV's and tent campers there also.
The cow pasture that was outside of turn 3 and 4 where many fans have camped for years is back open. It is smaller than before (before gate H, behind east Turn Grandstand) so get there early.
Outside of Gate 9 and 10 across the street from the track is a 70 acre field with private camping. They sell ice and firewood in the front of it. Vista Creek Drive. Camping $40.00 parking $15.00. 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM quiet time.

BLACK FLAG FROM The Marker Family: get exact directions for the speedway camping-we were at the champion campground and there was no one around to give directions. we arrived on Thursday evening-darkthirty traveled around the parking lot three times before we finally stopped got out and had to ask how to get into the campsite-you could see campers/trailer but all the gates were chained ---
bring lots of blocks if its been raining-we had a hardtime leveling our 28 ft trailer, as the ground was drenched-apparently it had been raining steady for a couple of days-
GREEN FLAG FROM BRENDA B., CANADA: Atlanta has to be the best camping for a tenter yet it's 40$ for week has full bathroom w/ showers unreserved come early though (no later than thurs) it's close too track (no hills like Bristol) has great fan activities (at day and older at night) and friendly people. worth every penny.
The Mid-State RV Center Family Campground presented by Coachmen and Sports Coach will be located north of the front entrance of the speedway, adjacent to Hwy 19/41 and next to the spacious new bathroom/shower facility. There will be separate camping areas for both RV and tent/pop-up camping, and spaces will being pre-selling immediately for the Oct. 29-31 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500.
There will be approx 380 RV spaces, which will sell for $125 per race, and 180 tent pop-up spaces, which will be $100 per race.
Campers in the family-designated area will be surrounded by sturdy fencing and will be able to depend on round-the-clock security. The new Mid-State RV Family Campground will also have strictly enforced quiet time from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. For more information or to purchase spaces in the Mid-State RV Family Campground, call the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office now at (770) 946-4211.

UPDATE FROM C.R.S. AKA SPEEDWAYDOG: Camping spaces for the Projects go on sale the saturday before race weekend at 8:00 AM and most are sold by Wednesday. I'll be one of the folks in line at 6:00 am saturday trying to get a 15 x 30 piece of waterfront property close to the shower house. Put one MBT(Medium Brown Truck) and a tent upin that space and it gets crowded quick.

SHOWERS, FREE WATER AND RV DUMPING STATION
The first road off Petty Blvd. turns onto Speedway Property. Unreserved tent camping is on your left and East Turn Reserved Camping on your right. The Shower House & restrooms are located at the corner of the next intersection at the end of unreserved camping. Across the road from it is free water and RV dumping. It is located in front of the East Turn Reserved Camping.
Another RV dump station in the unreserved camping off Speedway Blvd.
Also there is a Shower House & restrooms are located further down this same road right after it intersects with Inner Perimeter Rd. in the Free Parking lot on the right. Near the main entrance.
GREEN FLAG: Man on Man are Bruton's shower houses the best! 20 HOT showers with each having a dressing areas and 27 toilets. Places to plug in hair dryers. HEATED! Also, some of the hand dryers are mounted up high so you can use them to dry your hair....
There is another Free Water Station and RV Dump Station outside of Turn 1 (on the road coming in from entrance M beside the free parking lot.)
INFIELD dump station near the infield bathroom/shower building in Turns 1 & 2.
There is also a large restroom and shower house in turn 3.
All the Rest areas in Georgia on Interstate 20 have RV Dump Stations. Not sure about I-75 or I-85 but we will be having our pit crew check it out on the way down.

In between the Waffle House & Wendys is a Shopping Center (on the corner of 19/41 and 20) where there are a boatload of independent vendors.

A shop we found by accident in Calhoun off I-75N. It is in an outlet mall beside the interstate. They sell all kinds of clothes( Vanity Fair, HealthTex, Lee) but have a great selection of Chase Authentics at half price. It's called VF Factory Outlet. It's well worth the stop if you need a break after the traffic.

FROM JOANIE: Directly next door to Rusty's 56 w hwy 81, McDonough GA, is a Comfort Inn Motel. Across from Rusty's on GA20 is a new Holiday Inn Express, also.
I would not recommend going to any motels or bars in Riverdale, Jonesboro, Lovejoy, or Stockbridge. Those areas are no longer safe at night, in my opinion. I used to work as a 911 dispatcher and those areas have deteriorated and are not safe after dark. During the day, driving thru, it's fine, but staying overnight or going to the bars are risky for visitors.

Local short track racing is the best! On the weekends that the big boys are in Town the local short tracks have drivers from all over come & it's their big deal. Remember, we've seen the 3 Earnhardt kids at Myrtle Beach Speedway in legend and modified cars before they were probably old enough for a real drivers license.

TRAVELING SOUTH:
I-75 South to Exit #235 (15 miles South of downtown Atlanta) and continue on U.S. Highway 19 & 41 for 15 miles. If traffic is backed up at Exit #235 travel South on I-75 to Exit #218. GA 20 West follow signs to Speedway. (15 miles)
UPDATE FROM A NICE FAN PBRED8 (THANKS):
On race day coming From the north (ATlanta), avoid US 41/ Tara Blvd at all costs
2) One alternate is to stay on I-75 going south to Exit 205, GA 16 (Griffin/ Jackson) turn East on 16 to downtown Griffin and pick up US 41 in Griffin and proceed north to the track. The reverse is a good way out after the race.
3) Get off I-75 south @ the GA 85( 4 lane) exit just south of I-285 and proceed thru Riverdale to Fayetteville and turn SE on GA 92 to track (follow signs)
TRAVELING NORTH:
I-75 North to Exit #205. GA 16 West into Griffin. U.S. Highway 19 & 41 North to Speedway. (20 miles)
I-75 to Exit #212. Hampton-Locust Grove Road West to GA 20. GA 20 to Speedway. (15 miles)
I-75 North to Exit #218. GA 20 West to Speedway. (15 miles)
ENTERING SPEEDWAY GROUNDS:
Reserved & Handicap Parking is in the large asphalt lots directly in front of Gates 12-14.
From the Main Entrance: The large "Red Parking Lot: (to the left as you enter, behind bus parking) has been re-designated as a Reserved Camping Lot. Car Parking is no longer authorized in this lot. AMS has plenty of free car parking in the grass fields across from the airport.
Entrance E is an entrance only before Friday. Friday-Sunday Entrance E will be closed. Vehicles entering here before Friday will not be allowed to exit at Entrance E.
DIRECTIONS TO EXITING ROUTES:
From Speedway Blvd: Speedway Blvd exits both North and South onto Hwy 19/41. Northbound Traffic stay in left lanes and take Hwy 19/41 North, follow signs through Jonesboro to I-75; or follow signs on Hwy 19/41 and exit on Hwy 81 or Jonesboro Rd to I-75. Southbound Traffic stay in far right lane on Speedway Blvd and take Hwy 19/41 South to Griffin and I-75 and I-85.
From the Main Entrance: If you are in big "Blue Parking Lot" (to right as you enter) Exit northbound onto Hwy 19/41; follow signs through Jonesboro to I-75; or follow signs on Hwy 19/41 and exit on Hwy 81 or Jonesboro Rd to I-75.
From Richard Petty Blvd: Richard Petty Blvd exits both north and south onto Hwy 19/41. Northbound Traffic stay in left lanes and take 19/41 north, follow signs through Jonesboro to I-75; or follow signs on Hwy 19/41 and exit on Hwy 81 or Jonesboro Rd to I-75. Southbound Traffic stay in far right lane and take Hwy 19/41 South to Griffin and I-75 and I-85.
From Weaver Parking: Take either Speedway Blvd or Richard Petty Blvd to reach Hwy 19/41. Northbound Traffic stay in left lanes and take 19/41 North, follow signs through Jonesboro to I-75; or follow signs on Hwy 19/41 and exit on Hwy 81 or Jonesboro Rd to I-75. Southbound Traffic stay in far right lane and take Hwy 19/41 South to Griffin and I-75 and I-85.
To go West and South on SR 92 to Fayetteville, Peachtree City, I-85 and Griffin take Richard Petty Blvd west until it becomes Woolsey Rd. Southbound Traffic (Griffin) go left on Wildwood Rd, stay straight until it connects with SR 92, go left on SR 92 and follow this road until it connects with Hwy 19/41 - from here you can either go North to Atlanta or South to Griffin follow signs to I-75. Northbound Traffic stay on Woolsey Rd, until it connects with SR 92, follow SR 92 to Hwy 85 and Fayetteville; at Fayetteville go west on Hwy 54 to Peachtree City and I-85.
